Conversations with Kate

Kate saw a black and white picture of Peggy and I today, and she looked at Peggy and said, "You need to paint those pictures."

Conversations with Kate

Kate: Mommy, can we go out to lunch today?
Me: No baby, not today.
Kate: Why?
Me: Because we don't have money to go out to lunch everyday.
Kate: Did the pastor take all of our money?
Me: What?
Kate: Did the pastor take all of our money when we gave it to the church last week?

This conversation was followed by yet another tithing discussion. Kate is fascinated by the whole thing but apparently doesn't quite get it yet!

Bunny Rabbits?

Rick (to Peggy): Do you think when Adam was naming all the animals he called the bunny, "Bunny" or "Rabbit" or did he give it both names?

Peggy: Well, it probably wasn't in english, so....

I quickly realized Peggy had a good point and that the in-depth reading and studying for seminary is getting to me.

Conversations with Kate

Rick: What is this? (Pointing to a picture of rocks in the ocean)

Kate: THOSE are Lobsters!

Rick: No, they're rocks.

Kate: (Pointing at a fish) And those are Fishes

Rick: You mean Fish not fishes

Kate: No, they're fishes

Rick: You don't say Fishes. You are supposed to say Fish

Kate: No, I say Fishes

Must be a little early to teach grammar....

Prayer with Kate

Each night we pray with Kate (our 2 yr old daughter). We use different formats each night. Some nights I will pray for us all or Peggy will pray for us all, and other times (like tonight) we pray and have Kate repeat the words after us.

Tonight, we used the method where Kate repeats the words after me. I'd like to share the prayer with you now.

Rick: God, I love you.

Kate: God, I love you.

Rick: Thank you for life

Kate: Thank you for life

Rick: Please help my bottom to feel better (she has a small rash)

Kate: Please help my bottom to feel better

Rick: God, you are perfect

Kate: you are perfect

Rick: and you are not like me

Kate: You do not like me

Thank goodness for Romans 8:26, which says:

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express."

Conversation with Kate

Rick: "Achoo, Achoo!"

Kate: "Daddy's sneezing"

Rick: "Yep, I have allergies. Do you have allergies?"

Kate: "No, I have gum"

Kate: (whining) "Don't close the door! I want to play with my bubbles!"

Rick: "Kate, do not complain"

Peggy: (from the back room) "Kate, tell daddy you are sorry. (pause) Kate, say 'I'm sorry for complaining daddy.'"

Kate: "I'm sorry daddy"

Rick: "Are you saying you are sorry just so you can go play with your bubbles?"

Kate: (excitedly) "Yes I am!"
